If the cancer is in a non-sensitive area like the cheek or chin, the plastic surgeon often will remove the cancer followed by closure of the defect. However, extensive cancers especially those that require complicated reconstruction or are near areas that do not permit removal of a lot of surrounding tissue that would otherwise cause tissue distortion, Dr. Guru Bhushan prefers to work with a oncosurgeon who will remove the cancer followed by reconstructive surgery usually on the same day.
